Loan deferral: financial sector and public authorities work towards a uniform approach for all banks

Citizens and businesses will have enough time to discuss payment deferral with their bank
Febelfin, the Minister of Finance Alexander De Croo and the National Bank of Belgium announced on 22 March 2020 that they would provide financial support to Belgian citizens and businesses if they encounter difficulties linked to the coronavirus crisis.
In collaboration with the entire financial sector and public authorities, Febelfin is currently working on the practical implementation of this commitment concerning mortgage loans and business loans. This will allow all banks to communicate consistently with their customers and assist them in the same way.
Important to note in this context is that citizens and businesses will have enough time to discuss a possible payment deferral with their banker. Those who wish can contact their banker in the coming weeks. It is therefore not necessary to take contact within the next few days.
Febelfin and the authorities will communicate soon all the practical details concerning payment deferral.
