Brussels Region secures 500 million euro credit line with ING Belgium

The facility runs for two years, with the possibility of extension, and strengthens the flexibility of cash management.

The Brussels-Capital Region has secured a 500 million euro credit line with ING Belgium. This was announced by Brussels Minister of Finance and Budget, Dirk De Smedt. The facility runs for two years, with the possibility of extension, and strengthens the flexibility of cash management.

As is customary for this type of decision, ING’s assessment is based on factual parameters such as liquidity, financial planning and the borrower’s repayment capacity. Based on this analysis, the bank notes today that the short-term liquidity of the Brussels-Capital Region is sufficiently strong.

This credit line fits within the government’s broader strategy to stabilise public finances and rebuild a credible financial framework. Last week, the 2026 budget was approved by parliament, marking a first step towards structural balance by 2029.

Dirk De Smedt, Brussels Minister of Finance and Budget: "The renewed cooperation with such an important financial player as ING is a clear signal that Brussels is once again seen as a reliable partner. This credit line gives us the breathing space to meet our obligations properly, while at the same time strengthening the foundations of our financial management."
Saskia Bauters, Head of Business Banking Belgium: "With this credit line, ING Belgium reaffirms its commitment as a universal Belgian bank to providing robust financing solutions to the public sector. In addition to being the key partner for entrepreneurs, we also aim to be the primary partner for the public sector. Our Together for Progress strategy serves as our compass in this ambition."
