PRESS RELEASE
Brussels, 24 April 2014
By following an active and diverse arts policy, ING Belgium aims to emphasise how indispensable art is to our society, and that it deserves constant attention. ING possesses a collection of contemporary art that is shared with bank employees. The bank also organises exhibitions open to the public, for example the exhibition To The Point - The Neo-Impressionist Portrait, which is currently running at the ING Cultural Centre at Place Royale 6, 1000 Brussels. By teaming up with Art Brussels, ING Belgium has added another aspect to its arts policy: to be side-by-side with artists and art professionals during the week when the entire country gets immersed in contemporary art. Art Brussels is the most attended art event in Belgium and generates collaboration across the country between galleries, museums, collectors, agents, artists, amateurs and art schools.
For its tenth participation in Art Brussels, ING has decided to put its Lounge space at the disposal of two associations for the duration of the exhibition. As socially responsible actor, ING Belgium is conscious of the future of our society and recognises the importance of helping children blossom in all aspects. In the light of this, ING welcomes the non-profit organisations Aquarelle, which offers support to disadvantaged women and their newborns during childbirth, and Rasa, which promotes art education for children. This initiative fits in perfectly with the bank's Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that is based on childhood and education, with ING Chances for Children as its main programme.
42 unique drawings and a colouring book with the proceeds going to the non-profit organisation Aquarelle
42 unique drawings by contemporary artists will be exhibited and on sale for €1,500 each, with the proceeds going to the non-profit organisation Aquarelle. These drawings have been brought together in a colouring book for children, also available on the ING stand.
The affiliate artists in this project are exhibited in galleries at the event, which can be identified by an "orange stop", shown on the Art Brussels map.
Children allowed! The Kids Corner in the ING Lounge
For the Art Brussels' Kids Corner organised in the ING Lounge, Rasa invites the children who come to the event to discover an office containing 20 works of art and take part in a creative workshop. This project is a prelude to the future exhibition Me-You-Us that Rasa is organising on the themes of identity and interaction. ING intends to contribute to this project with a selection of works from its collection. Thanks to these works, children will be able to reflect on such deep questions as: Who am I? How am I perceived by others? What are my roots? Where is my home?
These issues also affect the mothers supported by Aquarelle, who come from immigrant backgrounds and who find themselves in very difficult circumstances.
